How does it all work?
Velo Promotions will rent a suitable venue such as a hotel or up-market bar preferably with the exclusive use of a private function room with a bar etc.
On arrival guests will be checked in, given a numbered badge, a scorecard (or speed ticket as we prefer to call it) and sometimes introduced to the other guests should we feel the need. Preferably we would like to have 25 to 30 men and an equal number of women.
The ladies are seated at numbered tables. No. 1 gent will speak to No.1 lady, No.2 gent to No. 2 lady etc. After 4 or 5 minutes a bell will ring and the men will all move or rotate one position to the next table. This will continue until everybody has met and spoken to everybody else.
We usually have one break for 15 minutes half the way through the event and occasionally a further break or two if the need arises.
On your scorecard you can take notes etc of every person you meet to help you to remember later on. If you would like to meet any of the people you have met then you can tick their number on your speed ticket. If by chance they would like to meet you as well then we have a match. We will contact both of you the next day and supply you with each other’s e-mail address’s or phone numbers. Most people will get at least one date.
The event will normally last about 2.5 to 3 hours. Depending on the day of the week we usually ask people to check in at 7 or 7.30 and the speeddating will normally start 30 minutes later. Depending on the number of participants and late arrivals the event would normally not take longer than 3 hours from check-in to finish (10pm on Sundays & 10.30 on weekdays). The rest of the evening is your own. Occasionally depending on demand and time of year etc we organize a dance or disco after the Speed dating.

What’s the difference between a ‘date’ tick and a ‘friendship tick?
We at Velo Promotions have decided not to use this system for the moment. We would prefer to keep the method simple. The difference between a ‘Date’ and a ‘Friendship’ tick is as follows:
If you fancy someone then you give a date tick. If on the other hand you think your speed date was great fun or you might like to meet him or her for business reasons or whatever then a friendship tick applies. The problem arises when one party gives a date tick and the other a friendship tick. Both parties will be given each other’s e-mails for a friendship date. The person who fancies the other can keep it to himself or herself if they prefer and pretend that he or she only gave a friendship tick. Is it worth it? However, even though it complicates the issue, we are considering it for the 40/50's events. What do you think?

Are there any specific requirements to sign up?
You should be single, have an e-mail address or a mobile number and we would prefer if you fitted in with your age group. It wouldn’t be fair to everybody else if you were obviously too old or too young for the event.

Can I bring a friend?
Of course you can. The more the merrier and the more enjoyable the evening will be for everyone. We give discounts for groups of people booking on line. Please register early if you would like to be seated close to each other. The event is a private function and we do not allow the public or friends etc to watch the event from the side. However if your friend does not want to participate he or she may accompany you until the speeddating itself starts, at which point participants will be asked to take their seats and all others asked to leave the room.

I am running late for an event. What do you suggest?
Don’t panic. Just get there as soon as you can. A phone call to Brendan on 087-2652348 would be appreciated. The event will start promptly at 7.30 but you can join in as soon as you arrive. Your host will gladly introduce to anybody you haven’t met.

Is it possible to pay at the door?
Unfortunately no. The success of the evening depends greatly on good organization including having equal numbers of both men and women, by matching age groups etc. and also having a suitable venue that’s neither too big or too small depending on numbers and age groups etc. We can only do this effectively if places are booked well in advance. However occasionally people cancel at the last minute leaving vacant seats. If a person is on the waiting list and in the vicinity we will make an exception and accept payment at the door. Admission is totally at our discretion and no guarantees are given.

What name will appear on my card statement?
It will appear charged to ‘Velo Promotions’ However because we now deal with Paypal we can change the name to appear as anything you prefer.

What should I wear?
Wear what you are most comfortable with. As a guideline remember that if the event is midweek most people will drop in on the way home from work wearing suits etc. Weekends tend to be more relaxed with many wearing jeans etc. However do remember that first impressions do count and you have only four minutes to impress. See 'How to create a good first impression' in our 'Hints & Tips' page.

What is the age range?
Our Speed Dating events cater mostly for the 22-38 age group. Occasionally we will cater for older age groups depending on demand. These age ranges are only guidelines so choose the range you are most comfortable with. If in doubt feel free to call us.

Why is each date only four minutes long?
Someone once said that you know after 30 seconds whether you like someone or not. We at Velo Promotions believe that four minutes is long enough to know whether you would like to meet someone again and also to know if there is a bit of chemistry there or not. However four minutes feels like an eternity if you don’t like the other person. It might be wise to have a few ‘Speed dating Questions’ ready to tide you over.
Depending on the size of the crowd on the night we vary the time from 4 to 6 minutes.

What is the cost & how do I pay?

The cost at the moment is €30 per person for each event held in Cork. However the cost can vary depending on circumstances. We recently relocated from costly hotels to the Hub private bar in Cork which enabled us to reduce our charges from €40 to €30 to help cope with the economic state of the country. However in other parts of the country the cost might vary. For group discounts see our discount section on the 'Events' page. The best and most secure way to pay is probably on line by using PayPal. You can also book by giving your card details over the phone. Alternatively you can also send a cheque, postal order, bank draft or even cash by post (Obviously we do not accept any responsibility for the post).

Explain PayPal?

We changed our on line payment system to PayPal back in 2007 because we felt we needed to give our clients the most secure, user friendly & hassle free system available. Most of you are already familiar with PayPal. If you use E-Bay or Amazon you will know that PayPal are one of the most respected, secure & widely used systems available today.
Paypals Refund Policy: One interesting benefit when using Paypal is the fact that you can get a full refund up to 60 days after the purchase with absolutely no charges incurred to the buyer or seller. Full refunds are given when events are cancelled or when a client cancels an event after giving the appropriate notice.
Paypal is probably the most popular and secure form of payment available on line and is the usual form of payment used by E-BAY, Amazon and other reputable and well known organisations. By clicking on the PayPal button you are brought into PayPal's secure website. You have 2 payment options open to you here.

1. Make a normal on-line payment by clicking on the 'Continue' button on the left of the page. Follow the instructions re your name & card details etc. When your payment is accepted you are given a confirmation on screen and you should receive an e-mail confirming the payment. It's as simple as that. You are given an option here to open an account with PayPal for future use if you so wish. Having an account has a number of benefits, the most obvious being that you only need to give your e-mail & password in future to make payments without any need to give your name and card details again. However opening an account is totally optional.
2. The 2nd option is to use your account with PayPal to pay the bill, assuming that you already have an account with them. You can do this by entering your e-mail and password in the section provided.

Once your payment is made you leave PayPals secure website and you are returned to this website.

What is our refund policy?

If an event is cancelled for whatever reason Velo Promotions will give a full refund to those who have paid through Paypal or by Credit Card over the phone up to a maximum of 60 days from the date of payment. However if you have paid by other means, to cover the cost of postage, handling and banking charges etc we will deduct 3 Euro per booking or give you the option to move to another event at no extra charge.
2. If you are unable to attend an event we need at least 3 days notice to qualify for a refund. A full refund will be given to those who have paid through Paypal or by Credit Card over the phone up to a maximum of 60 days from the date of payment. However if you have paid by other means, to cover the cost of postage, handling and banking charges etc we will deduct 3 Euro per booking or give you the option to move to another event at no extra charge.
3. All other requests for a refund will be totally at the discretion of Velo Promotions.

Do you have any rules when speeddating?

We have a short number of rules which we ask our clients to adhere to during and after the event. These are all listed on your speeddating card given to you before the event. They are as follows:

• Conduct: Please be courteous and mannerly to everyone you meet
• Gents: The tables are in number order. Please stick to that order. Do not be tempted to move to any other table other than the next in number sequence.
• Ladies: Please check the number of each gent you meet.
• Matches: Information on matches only will be given out. Please do not look for extra information.

Do you have any rules or policy on matches?

First name (or nickname) plus contact phone number or e-mail address will only be given out to clients who match on the night. We have a strict policy never to divulge any other information or to get involved in any way between clients after an event. At the risk of being offended please do not look for extra information, such as: -

• How many ticks did I get?
• Did a particular person tick me?
• Could I have a persons number?
• Could you ring such a person for me? etc. etc
